Short Analysis

What is Authentic Assessment?

Authentic assessment is a technique that can be used by teachers to assess the overall growth of a student. It evaluates the learning of a student throughout the year, and requires the student to use his knowledge and skill to generate meaningful content. This method helps in inculcating various skills in a student by the use of projects, presentations, journals, etc. Authentic assessment prepares a student for upcoming professional life by inculcating several aspects like deep understanding of knowledge, social skills, problem-solving skills, time management, team work, etc.

How was authentic assessment used? Was it used to measure learning through the product? Explain.

Authentic Assessment aims to evaluate students abilities in a real world context. In other words students learn how to apply their skills to authentic tasks and projects.Authentic assessment does not encourage rote learning and  passive test- taking. Instead, it focuses on students analytically skills; ability to integrate what they learn; creativity; ability to work collaboratively ; and written and oral expression skills. It values the learning process as much as the finished product.

Based from the interview, the teacher use the authentic assessment in measuring the capability of each students, by employing such activities which requires active students participation. Like writing stories and reports also by letting the students interpret literature.

How did you feel about the teachers use of authentic assessment?

I am glad that nowadays, teachers uses already this kind of assessment which really measures the extent of learning of the students.

What could be the gains of the  students and teachers in using the authentic assessment?

By using authentic assessment students will be able to  deal with real world contexts. On the other hand, the teachers were able to see the progress of learning of the students easily.

What part of the teachers practice of the authentic assessment do you feel like improving or revising?

There is nothing to revise. I think the teacher incorporate traditional and authentic assessment tools in her class. Base on the interview she uses both assessment tools to really measure the learning of the student.
