Mrs. ANELYN LABADAN

Describe in bullets the product – oriented activity you observe.

·        Ms.Anelyn  announced that the student will make an illustration of different rules or signs found in different places.
·         Students were group into 4  members per group.
·         Students should do it by group to be illustrated in a manila paper or cartolina.
·       Also  make use of their art materials ( color pencil, crayons and etc.)

Your Plan

My Plan would be for the students to choose the most frequently observable signs and symbols in school and public places.

My Plan

Learning Objectives:

1.    To be able to interpret signs and symbols.
2.    Identify the purpose of using signs and symbols.
3.    Assess the effectiveness of signs and symbols

General Product – oriented performance task:
Signs or symbols  that describes are most observable.

Target skills:

Decision making and application
Learning activities (specific task):

-       To observe signs and symbols in their environment.
-       Then they will propose their own ideas on how they will work on it
-       Allowance for 1 day.
-       Then they will put 3 sentences of captions that explains their work

Assessment task:

Self – report on the product

Comments of classmates

Rubrics:

Criteria for judging
Excellent
good

Needs improvement

1       Has direct connection to real life styles.

2.    Address to the lesson.

3.    Creativity.

4.    Breadth.

5.    Articulation of content.

Notes on my Product – oriented assessment plan

What are the best features of my product – oriented performance assessment design?

The best feature would be the creativity of the output and how they endorsed it.

What specific conditions are necessary for a successful use of my product – oriented performance assessment design?

When conditions are enough like learner’s needs and capacities

What basic points should the user of this design consider?

The learners abilities and competencies, also financial status and personal relations.

ANALYSIS

1.      Why do you think the originally designed product – oriented performance assessment can appropriately assess the teacher’s learning objective?

Because,  it not only assess lower competencies but as well as higher order thinking skills like judgment skills and application that fit and appropriate as well as related to the planned objectives.

2.      Why do teachers give attention to the students’ product – oriented tasks? Why do they need to assess them?

Product is a very important matter that reflects a learner.

Teachers need to assess product which is the final output where it explains how far students have learned and if its related to the concept or theme.

3.      In what conditions can the product – oriented performance assessment be used more appropriately?

Product- oriented performance can be used to measure students creativity. It will measure also students psycho motor domain on how students able to perform the desired task base on the output of his performance. Here are some conditions to be made directly or indirectly:
First, if the learners’ competencies where enough to sustain the activity.
Second, interest and objective – matching.
And if the learning environment was suitable to them.
If that happens the needs where equally visible then product assessment can be executed

REFLECTIONS

Product- oriented performance is somehow connected to the episode 4 the process- oriented  or performance based assessment. The only difference is that in product-oriented performance teachers need to assess students  on the output of their work, just like how nice is their project, also it measures the psycho motor domain of the students, while in process oriented performance teachers assess students in terms with their knowledge or the cognitive side of the students.

Just like in episode 4 this FS is also challenging. Teachers should set a criteria in measuring students competencies. A rubrics serve as a guide in identifying which  work follows the correct guidelines which was written in the rubrics.  Furthermore, this FS will help future teachers like me in assessing students performances...

Your Goal

At the end of this activity, you will be skillful in designing process – oriented performance assessment.

Your Task
After your observation experience you now have a deeply and principled understanding of the concepts of authentic assessment used in the classroom. You can now  go through the process of designing performance assessment by following  these steps:

1. Visit a class and identify performance – based   activities.
2. Choose one performance – based activity and study its processes.
3. Design a performance assessment plan for the activity you have chosen.
4. Collect samples of performance-based assessment tools.
5. Reflect on your experience.

Your Tools

In observing a class, take note of important observations of the performance – based activity in the classroom.  Make a checklist of the important things you want  to consider in your assessment planning. Use the activity form provided for you.You may use format of process – oriented assessment, that you have taken in your assessment 2 class .The rubrics are part and parcel of this assessment plan.

Observation Notes

LAPASAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Year level:  Grade 8

LAPASAN CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY

Date of Visit: September 16, 2013
Subject Area: MATH

Subject Matter: EXTRACTING OF SQUARER ROOT

Describe in bullets the performance – based activity you observe.

  • Teacher ask the students to answer the assignment which he gave, and call a students to answer the problem. Then I observed that the teacher wants to know if the students were really the one who made their assignments or if they were able to understand the lesson.
  • After having a review with the students assignment, he delivered the new lesson  from simple to complex by giving  simple examples before proceeding to complicated lesson.
  •  Teacher keeps on praising  students whenever they answer the given equation correctly.
  • The students performed the given operations through analyzing in their notes.
  •  Students execute cooperation among classmates.
  • They also listen attentively to the teacher while discussing and giving instructions.
  • Students solve the problem mentally.

Based on your observation, make a checklist of the important things you wish to consider in your performance – based assessment plan.
My Checklist

  • Observe the different methodologies and strategies used by the teacher in delivering the lesson.
  • Determine the disciplinary actions given by the teacher for every offenses of the students in their rules and regulations
  •  Find the weakness and strength of learners.
  •   Prepare the instructional materials.
  •  To know the techniques on how to maintain good atmosphere in the classroom to deliver the lesson more effectively.

NOTES ON MY PROCESS – ORIENTED ASSESSMENT PLAN

Year level:  Grade 8
LAPASAN CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY
Date of Visit: September 16, 2013
Subject Area:ENGLISH
Subject Matter: GRAND SURVEY REPORTING ( ACTIVITY)

What are the best features of my process – oriented performance assessment design?

The best feature of my process-oriented assessment method is to make sure that the lesson is suitable to the interest of the learners. The problems must be moderately difficult and it should measures the ability of the students.

What specific conditions are necessary for a successful use of my process – oriented performance assessment design?

Students were group and task to report. They make surveys and try to  analyze and solve problems. Students must cooperate among their classmates not as an individual. They must write the results or solutions on a  manila paper before end up discussing how they come up with that answer.

What basic points should the user of this design consider?

The basic points that should be consider in this design are the learners.Students must be given attention in terms with their abilities and another is the materials to be used it should be well planned for the success of the design.

Your Analysis

Why do teachers need to give attention to the students’ process – oriented tasks? Why do they need to assess them?

Process is more important because it tells us the way
students perform well on creating output products.
In what conditions can the process – oriented performance assessment be used more appropriately?

Assess more appropriately if the conditions are settled enough like the environment and mood of teachers. And if the interest of pupils were attain then a teacher can execute the process assessment.

Your Reflections

Make reflections on your feelings and thoughts about the observations made in this FS.

Making this process – oriented assessment method is kind challenging in my part. The important here, is that you will know your students, their interest and their  learning styles.Teaching should be students centered not teacher centered.Students must gain lesson and they should be involve in the learning process. In assessing the students it is very important to use methods and strategies that really measures the learning of the students, this is by the use of a performance-based activity that enable to measure the real learning of the students.
